Tips for beginners in diving

First and foremost, you need to be very patient. You cannot expect to gain the experience you lack over a course or two. Therefore, it is essential that you have clarified everything prior to your session. Even if you feel that something is trivial or unimportant, let me tell you it isn’t.

It is perfectly understandable that you get butterflies in your stomach before your diving course. Feel free to practice deep breathing, to clear your mind from anything else that might be disturbing you. You are about to set out on a wonderful adventure alongside experienced and certified professional divers. There is really nothing that should keep you on edge. If you are overly nervous, then you can discuss it with your instructor and reschedule if you wish. But again, be realistic. Close your eyes and imagine what you are about to experience. As far as food and drink is concerned, things are pretty simple. You should avoid consuming alcohol before your diving session. Alcohol might hinder your performance and at high quantity might put you at risk. At the same time, we suggest eating lightly (a sandwich or a salad) before the dive, because digestion can in fact slow you down, leave you lethargic or even worse compromise your ability to dive.

On the other hand, water is an irreplaceable part of life, and you must remain hydrated throughout the day. Many people believe that you do not need any water, since you are already underwater. Well, this is a widely-spread misconception that has nothing to do with the truth. In fact, you must be strategic on the day of your diving experience and drink plenty of water, sip by sip. Even when you finish diving and you return to the boat or the shore, again you must hydrate yourself properly.
